Zetrix Uses Digital ID Verification to Chinese Expats Through Blockchain

Published:

Malaysian blockchain platform Zetrix has unveiled ZCert, a new electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) service designed to help Chinese nationals abroad verify their digital identities. This service leverages China’s state-run Xinghuo Blockchain Infrastructure and Facility (BIF), enabling users to publish and authenticate their official Digital IDs on the blockchain.

Zetrix Expands Global Digital ID Reach

Zetrix, which operates the International Supernode for Xinghuo BIF, offers the ZCert service as part of its integration with China’s blockchain infrastructure, run by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. The service aims to expand globally, providing Chinese nationals with a reliable, blockchain-based identity verification solution.

According to Zetrix co-founder T.S. Wong, ZCert facilitates a range of Web3 services powered by smart contracts, allowing payments to be executed in full compliance with regulations. Wong highlighted that ZCert, when combined with Malaysia’s National ID, World ID, and other future sovereign digital IDs, represents one of the most comprehensive global digital identity solutions.

Expanding Services and Future Goals

Zetrix’s parent company, MY EG Services, has already made significant strides in digital identity verification. In partnership with Malaysia’s government R&D agency MIMOS, Zetrix is developing the country’s national public blockchain. The blockchain firm plans to extend the ZCert service to include verification for critical documents beyond identity, such as Chinese driving licenses for overseas verification.

As Zetrix continues to grow, its reach in ASEAN countries is also expanding. Xinghuo BIF’s integration with Zetrix enables services like cross-border commodity tracing, supply chain finance, and identity verification in the region.

Self-Sovereign Identity Model

ZCert adopts a self-sovereign identity model, giving users control over their personal data. This model allows individuals to selectively share specific identity elements, ensuring privacy while guaranteeing the authenticity and security of their digital identity through blockchain technology. By leveraging blockchain, these IDs remain unaltered and can be updated as necessary.

Despite numerous advancements in blockchain-based identity verification systems, digital identity remains a complex issue. Companies like IBM, Polygon, and the Ethereum Attestation Service have all made efforts to solve these challenges. Still, Zetrix’s new offering provides a unique and comprehensive solution for Chinese nationals abroad.
