Trump to Host $15 Million Fundraiser at Bitcoin Conference

The Republican National Convention and Bitcoin Conference will feature prominent conservatives, business leaders, and legislators. Former President Donald Trump is leveraging his appearance at this Bitcoin conference in Nashville to organize a $15 million fundraiser for his reelection campaign. The event is spearheaded by David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine.

Trump’s Political Maneuvering

According to a July 15 report from The Washington Post, this fundraiser is expected to follow Trump’s official nomination as the Republican presidential candidate at the upcoming Republican National Convention. Amid increasing political unrest in the US, the event will bring together key figures from conservative circles.

On July 13, during a rally in Pennsylvania, a 20-year-old Republican named Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump. Despite this, Trump confirmed he would still speak at the crypto conference. In May, Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts related to fabricating company records. However, a recent ruling by the conservative-led Supreme Court might call this conviction into question. Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for September, just weeks before the US election.

Shift in Trump’s Stance on Bitcoin

While in office from 2017 to 2021, Trump called Bitcoin a “scam” and dismissed cryptocurrencies as “not money.” However, after declaring his bid for reelection in 2024, he changed his stance, promising to accept cryptocurrency contributions and encourage domestic Bitcoin mining. Trump is also expected to announce his vice-presidential pick at the Republican National Convention on July 15.

Election Uncertainties

With 113 days until the US election, uncertainties persist about the names on the ballots. Trump faces potential civil lawsuits and imprisonment. After a June 27 debate, Democratic strategists and lawmakers suggested President Biden step down for potential candidates like Vice President Kamala Harris, citing Biden’s age. If reelected, Biden, now 81, would serve until 85, marking a historic term.

Trump’s involvement in the Bitcoin Conference underscores his strategic pivot towards cryptocurrency, aiming to galvanize support for his 2024 campaign. As the election approaches, the dynamics within both major political parties remain in flux, shaping a contentious race ahead.
