The Solana blockchain is at the heart of the latest “meme coin” craze in the crypto world. With new features like Actions and Blinks, developed in partnership with Dialect, Solana aims to make these trends more accessible to a broader audience.
Innovations for Mainstream Adoption
The Solana Foundation announced that Actions and Blinks enable transactions directly from websites and social platforms. These features aim to integrate Solana’s ecosystem seamlessly into daily internet use.
- Actions: Users can execute on-chain transactions across various platforms, including websites, social media, and QR codes.
- Blinks: These are blockchain links that allow sharing of Actions across different platforms.
These new features will be compatible with popular Solana wallets like Phantom and Backpack, with integration instructions available in Solana’s developer documentation.
Meme Coin Mania
Meme coin trading has surged on Solana, featuring assets like Iggy Azalea’s Mother token ($MOTHER) with a $70 million market cap, and dogwifhat ($WIF), which boasts a market cap above $2 billion. Despite criticism that meme coin trading resembles gambling, some believe the hype could help mainstream blockchain adoption.
Enhancing User Accessibility
The complexity of wallet software and trading platforms has been a barrier for newcomers to crypto trading. Solana’s new features aim to simplify these processes, making blockchain interactions more intuitive.
Jon Wong, head of ecosystem engineering at Solana Foundation, highlighted that Actions and Blinks allow any website or application to facilitate on-chain interactions, promoting mainstream adoption. For instance, a user could embed an Action in an X post, allowing followers to initiate transactions instantly.
Chris Osborn, founder of Dialect, emphasized the broad utility of these features, enabling users to buy NFTs, tip creators, receive money, vote, stake, swap, and more directly from their social media feeds.

Comparison to Other Blockchain Innovations
Solana’s new features are part of a broader trend to integrate blockchain technology with social media. Platforms like Farcaster on Coinbase’s Base blockchain offer similar functionalities, allowing users to embed direct links to blockchain assets. However, Solana’s approach integrates blockchain features into existing Web2 apps rather than creating new Web3 apps.
Osborn sees these integrations as the beginning of a significant shift in how the web functions, potentially leading to a true Web3 internet experience.
