Satoshi Nakamoto Statue Unveiled at Lugano Blockchain Event

Published:

At the third annual Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano, Switzerland, a bronze statue of Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto was unveiled, symbolizing the ideals of decentralization and financial independence. Organized by the Plan ₿ Initiative in partnership with the city of Lugano and Tether, the event attracted blockchain leaders and officials to celebrate Bitcoin’s impact and Nakamoto’s legacy.

A Monument to Satoshi Nakamoto’s Vision

Sculpted by artist Valentina Picozzi, the statue honors both the mystery and influence of Nakamoto, who disappeared from public view in 2010 after launching Bitcoin in 2009. A unique feature of the design allows the statue to appear to fade depending on the viewer’s angle, symbolizing Nakamoto’s departure from the public sphere and the enduring legacy of Bitcoin.

Lugano Mayor Michele Foletti shared that the statue reflects the city’s dedication to digital innovation. “Lugano is rapidly becoming a leading hub for digital innovation, and this statue honors Satoshi Nakamoto but also embodies the forward-thinking spirit that drives our city,” he stated, adding that the city’s commitment to blockchain technology and digital finance has positioned it as a leader in the field.

Celebrating Blockchain and Decentralized Finance at Plan ₿ Forum

This year’s Plan ₿ Forum emphasized advancements in Bitcoin and blockchain, focusing on decentralized finance (DeFi) as a potential game-changer for traditional finance. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino underscored the statue’s significance, noting it as a tribute to Nakamoto’s pioneering impact on decentralized finance and financial freedom, which remain at the forefront of innovation in the blockchain industry.
