Microsoft is reportedly developing a Web3 wallet that can integrate cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) into its Edge web browser. Software documenter and occasional info leaker Albacore shared screenshots of the wallet’s user interface on Twitter. If true, the wallet will be non-custodial, meaning that Microsoft will not have access to users’ passwords and recovery keys. Additionally, the wallet will be embedded in Edge, rather than installed as a browser extension.
Web3 Wallet Features
The UI screenshots showed that the Edge wallet will have the capability to swap, send, and buy crypto assets. Coinbase and MoonPay will be integrated platforms to allow users to purchase and deposit crypto into their wallets. For NFTs, users can browse different marketplaces to find and build their collection.

Microsoft’s Move to Ramp Up Edge Browser Capabilities
This potential integration of a Web3 wallet marks another effort by Microsoft to improve the capabilities of Edge, which has lagged behind popular competitors like Google Chrome and Apple Safari. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT to offer AI-powered search engines and chat as part of new upgrades to both its Bing and Edge browsers.
The potential new feature could offer users a more convenient and accessible way to interact with cryptocurrencies and NFTs. This move is part of Microsoft’s efforts to improve the capabilities of Edge and catch up with its popular competitors. In February, Microsoft announced the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT to offer AI-powered search engines and chat as part of new upgrades to both its Bing and Edge browsers.
