A recent poll reveals that more than half of U.S. voters are more inclined to support candidates who favor cryptocurrency. Craig Salm, Grayscale’s chief legal officer, shared these insights during an interview on October 16, highlighting the increasing political influence of crypto in the upcoming U.S. elections.
Voters’ Shift Toward Pro-Crypto Candidates
In collaboration with The Harris Poll, Grayscale conducted a survey to gauge American voters’ opinions on cryptocurrency-related policies. Salm mentioned that two out of five Americans are paying closer attention to candidates’ stances on Bitcoin and other crypto assets compared to previous elections.
Salm emphasized, “This poll clearly shows that Americans care whether a candidate supports crypto or not.” As the U.S. heads toward the 2024 presidential election, the role of cryptocurrency in political campaigns is becoming more significant.
2024 U.S. Presidential Election: Crypto Takes Center Stage
The 2024 U.S. presidential race is shaping up to be influenced by candidates’ positions on cryptocurrency. Former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, has expressed strong support for making the U.S. the “crypto capital of the world.” On the other hand, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, who has been relatively quiet about crypto, is seen as friendlier to the industry than current President Joe Biden, though not as outspoken as Trump.
Election Betting Markets Reflect Trump’s Crypto Appeal
As of October 17, election betting markets are showing a tilt in favor of Trump. Kalshi, a prediction marketplace, estimates Trump’s odds of winning at 57%, while Harris trails at 43%. On Polymarket, a decentralized prediction platform, Trump’s chances are even higher at 61%, with Harris at less than 38%.
This data suggests that pro-crypto policies may play a pivotal role in shaping voter preferences as the 2024 election approaches, particularly among younger and tech-savvy voters who view cryptocurrency as an important issue.
