Ryan Salame, a former executive of the now-defunct FTX exchange, officially reported to prison custody on October 11, 2024, at FCI Cumberland in Maryland, according to records from the Bureau of Prisons accessed.
Salame, who was sentenced to 90 months (7.5 years) in prison, pleaded guilty in 2023 to operating an unregulated money-transmitting business and violating campaign finance laws. These charges stem from his involvement in the 2022 collapse of FTX, which caused widespread fallout across the crypto industry.
Failed Attempt to Delay Prison Surrender
Salame initially sought to delay his surrender date until December 7, 2024, citing ongoing medical treatment for a dog bite. However, prosecutors opposed the request, arguing that the delay was unnecessary. On October 10, Judge Lewis Kaplan denied the motion, forcing Salame to begin his sentence as scheduled.
Despite several attempts to push back his prison date, Salame seemed to take his situation in stride. In a playful gesture, he updated his Twitter profile and LinkedIn page to reflect his new status as an inmate at Cumberland Correctional Institution.
Salame also appeared on Tucker Carlson’s podcast, where he suggested that federal prosecutors had unfairly targeted him for political reasons.
