El Salvador’s government is embarking on an ambitious initiative to enhance the Bitcoin literacy of 80,000 public employees. The comprehensive Bitcoin certification program, spearheaded by the National Bitcoin Office (ONBTC), focuses on strategic management and public policy related to the use of Bitcoin.
Comprehensive Bitcoin Training for Public Servants
The program, called “Certification in Public Administration 1,” is designed to equip government workers with the necessary knowledge to manage Bitcoin as a legal tender. The course spans 160 hours, delivered virtually and asynchronously, and is divided into seven modules. Each module covers key concepts, relevant laws, and essential management skills required for effective governance in a Bitcoin-friendly environment.
Aiming for a Bitcoin-Ready Workforce
Stacy Herbert, the director of ONBTC, sees this initiative as pivotal to El Salvador’s economic growth, which increasingly revolves around Bitcoin. She believes that educating civil servants will have a “compounding effect” on the nation’s Bitcoin-driven economy. Herbert also hinted at future educational projects to further support this vision, emphasizing the long-term benefits for the country.
The Higher School of Innovation in Public Administration (ESIAP), inaugurated by President Nayib Bukele in August 2021, is responsible for conducting the certification program. According to ONBTC, the curriculum is tailored to elevate the standards of governance and public administration, aligning with El Salvador’s pioneering stance on Bitcoin.
