Disappearance Act: Crypto Scams Vanish After Exposure

Phantom Projects: A Glimpse into Crypto’s Dark Side

Blockchain sleuth ZachXBT recently unveiled the fraudulent nature of several crypto projects, leading to their sudden disappearance from the internet. These projects were found to be financed by stolen funds, adding a sinister layer to the already volatile crypto landscape.

Stolen Funds Fueling Fraudulent Ventures

ZachXBT’s investigation pinpointed a wallet linked to multiple scams across various blockchains, including Base, Solana, Scroll, Optimism, Arbitrum, Ethereum, and Avalanche. This wallet provided liquidity to dubious projects like Leaper Finance, Zebra DAO, and Glori Finance, which vanished shortly after their exposure.

The Curtain Falls on Scam Projects

Within hours of exposure, these projects scrubbed their online presence. Interestingly, before disappearing, a Leaper Finance social media handler praised ZachXBT’s investigative prowess and bizarrely proposed a partnership in future scams. This brazen acknowledgment of fraud highlights the audacity of scam operators within the crypto space.

Investor Beware: The Rug Pull Phenomenon

The modus operandi of these scams often involves ‘rug pulls’ where project creators abruptly withdraw all funds, leaving investors with worthless tokens. This pattern underscores the importance of due diligence before investing in crypto ventures, especially newer or lesser-known ones.

Rising Threats on Emerging Platforms

Platforms like Base are seeing a surge in phishing scams, with Scam Sniffer reporting a significant increase in stolen funds. As Base’s popularity grows, partly fueled by a recent memecoin craze, it becomes a prime target for such fraudulent activities.
