The exchange began on Thursday when Dell posted, “Scarcity creates value.” Michael Saylor, the executive chairman of MicroStrategy (MSTR), responded with, “Bitcoin is Digital Scarcity,” a statement Dell then reposted. The conversation continued with Dell sharing an image of Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster, digitally altered to show the character devouring bitcoins instead of cookies. The image appeared to have been created by Saylor, further indicating a playful engagement between the two tech leaders.
Saylor’s Influence
As the first CEO and now executive chairman at MicroStrategy, Michael Saylor has led his company to acquire 226,331 bitcoins, worth approximately $15 billion. This aggressive accumulation has positioned MicroStrategy as the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin. Saylor has also been a vocal advocate for other corporations to adopt Bitcoin as part of their treasury strategies. However, only a few companies have followed suit, and none have done so to the extent that MicroStrategy has.

According to a recent filing, Dell Technologies had $34.6 billion in current assets as of May 3, with $5.8 billion in cash and cash equivalents. Bitcoin was not mentioned as part of their assets. Despite this, Dell’s recent interactions on social media suggest a growing curiosity about Bitcoin, potentially influenced by Saylor’s evangelism.
