Cleanspark Expands into Wyoming with New BTC Mining Site

Published:

Cleanspark Inc., a Las Vegas-based cryptocurrency mining company, has acquired its first Bitcoin (BTC) mining site in Wyoming, securing 75 megawatts (MW) of power contracts. The new site is set to significantly increase the company’s mining capacity with advanced technology and strategic partnerships.

Wyoming Site to Enhance Mining Capacity

Located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the new facility will become Cleanspark’s second fully immersion-cooled Bitcoin mining site. The company plans to use Bitmain’s state-of-the-art S21 immersion XP machines, known for their efficiency, to add over 2 exahash per second (EH/s) to its mining capacity. The 30 MW immersion-cooled data center is expected to be operational by the end of 2024. Furthermore, Cleanspark aims to expand the site’s power capacity by an additional 45 MW, potentially adding another 3 EH/s to its overall hashrate.

Strategic Importance and Industry Support

The announcement of this expansion comes at a time of growing support for the cryptocurrency industry in Wyoming. The state has recently seen the launch of the University of Wyoming’s Bitcoin Research Institute and the introduction of the BITCOIN Act by Senator Cynthia Lummis. These initiatives underscore Wyoming’s commitment to fostering innovation in the blockchain and cryptocurrency sectors.

Cleanspark CEO Zach Bradford expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, highlighting the company’s collaboration with local, state, and national leaders. He emphasized that Cleanspark’s growth in Wyoming aligns with the state’s supportive stance toward the cryptocurrency industry.

Broader U.S. Operations and Future Plans

This new site marks Cleanspark’s entry into its third U.S. state, complementing its existing operations in Georgia and Mississippi. The company currently manages 12 data centers across these states, with additional co-locations in Tennessee and New York. The acquisition of Griid Infrastructure is expected to further enhance Cleanspark’s presence in Tennessee, with plans to significantly increase its hashrate capacity.

The expansion in Wyoming and beyond reflects Cleanspark’s commitment to scaling its operations and leveraging advanced technology to optimize Bitcoin mining efficiency.
