Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, may now have a net worth surpassing that of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, according to new onchain research. With Bitcoin’s rising value, Nakamoto’s estimated holdings could be worth over $108 billion.
Nakamoto’s Bitcoin Holdings Reach $108 Billion
According to Conor Grogan, director at Coinbase, Nakamoto is believed to own approximately 1.096 million BTC. At current market prices, these holdings are valued at around $108 billion.
New research from Arkham Intelligence suggests additional Bitcoin addresses may also be linked to Nakamoto. Grogan shared this information in a February 5 post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the findings further support Nakamoto’s status as one of the wealthiest individuals on paper.
How Nakamoto Compares to Bill Gates
As of now, Bill Gates has an estimated net worth of $106 billion, ranking him as the world’s 16th richest person, according to Forbes. If the calculations regarding Nakamoto’s Bitcoin holdings are accurate, this would place the Bitcoin creator ahead of Gates in wealth rankings.
However, Nakamoto’s fortune remains entirely in Bitcoin, and there has been no known movement of these funds since Bitcoin’s inception. If Nakamoto were to sell or transfer holdings, it could have a significant impact on the crypto market.
Despite the staggering valuation, Nakamoto’s identity remains unknown, and there is no indication that the Bitcoin creator intends to access or utilize the wealth. Until proven otherwise, Nakamoto’s fortune remains one of the biggest mysteries in the financial world.
